Flame Tree Cottages is a charming and inexpensive guest house, owned by a Zanzibari-Scottish couple, situated on the north-western corner of Zanzibar, just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Nungwi fishing village.

The accommodation comprises 14 cottages, ranging from a honeymoon (or family) suite, through double/twin room units, to one bedroom units, all with en-suite bathrooms, and most with separate sitting rooms. Breakfast is usually served on your own cottage veranda. You can dine in, choosing from a wide menu, including, naturally, a variety of sea food dishes, or visit one of Nungwi's nearby restaurants.

The hotel lies within a beautiful tropical garden, and a few short steps lead directly down onto the beach and ocean. An in-house traditional wooden boat (or 'mashua') caters for a range of sea-based sporting activities, and there are also three diving centres within walking distance. Excursions, including Spice Tours, Stone Town and Jozani Forest Tours can also be arranged.
